Embroidered Gifts for the Holidays: A Thoughtful Guide
Christmas cocktail napkins for the host, a name stitched on a dad hat, a cap for the dog lover: our honest guide to giving embroidered gifts this season.

A good gift does not need to be expensive. It needs to feel chosen. Embroidery is good at that: thread has texture and weight, and a name or a small motif stitched onto something useful tends to stay in use long after the wrapping paper is gone. Here is how we would choose embroidered gifts this season, from our own shop and beyond.
A gift tradition we grew up with
In Vietnam, embroidered things have long been given and treasured, from hand-stitched handkerchiefs to embroidered áo dài. Viet Nam News reported that one small hand-embroidery workshop in Quất Động village, near Hà Nội, sees orders rise before Tết, the Lunar New Year. The feeling is universal: when the year turns, people want gifts that last.
A quick note on what we make: CustomStitch House pieces are machine-embroidered to order in our Vietnam workshop. If you are looking for a hand-embroidered heirloom, an artisan workshop is the place to go. If you want a well-made, personal gift at a fair price, read on.
For the host: Christmas cocktail napkins
A set of embroidered cocktail napkins is one of the best hostess gifts we know. It is small, it gets used the very night you give it, and it comes out again every December. Our linen-blend sets come in groups of four with designs such as wreaths and topiaries, Santa and his reindeer, gingerbread houses and nutcrackers.
- Pair them with a bottle. Napkins tied around a bottle of wine or a jar of good olives make a complete gift with no extra wrapping.
- Mix and match. Some of our sets can be put together from different designs, so you can build one around the host's personality.
- Add a care card. A line saying "wash cool, no bleach, iron face down on a towel" helps the gift last.

For the person who has everything: a name, stitched
Personalisation turns a nice cap into their cap. A cotton dad hat with a name, a nickname or a short inside joke is a simple, personal gift that works for partners, dads, best friends and couples alike.
- Keep the text short. A first name or two or three words look best on a cap front; long phrases have to be stitched small, and very small text loses clarity in thread.
- Double-check spelling. We confirm personalised details before stitching, but it helps to have the exact spelling and capitalisation ready.
- Think about colour. A neutral cap with one bright thread colour is easy to wear every day.
For the dog lover, the bar cart and the hard-to-buy-for
- Dog people: our Christmas dogs cap or a set of dog-and-cat cocktail napkins.
- The home bartender: funny animal napkins, summer drink icons or nautical sailing sets suit a bar cart all year, not just in December.
- Car and motorcycle fans: our automotive and biker napkin sets are a fun change from the usual gadget gift.
Plan a little ahead
Every CustomStitch House order is stitched after you place it and then shipped from Vietnam, so delivery to the US usually takes around 10 to 18 days. For holiday gifts, that means ordering early, especially for personalised pieces where we confirm details with you first. If you are running late, a printed photo of the design inside a card makes a lovely "it's on its way" gift.
Wrapping without waste
Embroidery deserves a gentle wrap. Roll napkins rather than folding them tightly, tie them with ribbon or kitchen twine and add a sprig of rosemary or pine. For caps, a small box keeps the crown from being crushed in the post.
The best gift is the one that gets used. Thread is very good at being used.
Happy holidays from all of us at CustomStitch House. Thank you for supporting a small studio.
